Canna Lily: Canna x generalis
Looking to make a big splash? Plant a grouping of Canna Lilies for a vibrant tropical look to any garden or landscape! Cannas offer an incredibly striking view when planted in mass in open areas. Great at entrances for a home or subdivision! Their large tropical leaves are green, burgundy, or multi-colored stripes creating an impressive focal point in patio pots or gardens. The bright, colorful gladiola like blossoms are the icing on the cake. They love heat, humus, moist to wet soil, and 6-8 hours of sun. Cannas are low maintenance - requiring the occasional deadheading of spent blooms. Try mixing them with Papyrus ‘King Tut’, Agapanthus, different colors of Sweet Potato Vine, and tall purple or red Lobelia cardinalis.
In our Boulder climate Cannas are treated as annuals. The tubers cans be dug up in the fall and stored for the winter. Start the tubers inside in the spring and replant outside when all danger of frost is past. Flowers bloom in shades of red, yellow, orange, pink and bicolor
